Publishing your first Shopify product? Use this checklist to turn a rough draft into a listing a customer can understand. AI can help organize your copy, but you still need to check every product fact and test the buying path.
This guide covers ten checks, a reusable AI prompt and a simple before-and-after example. It is a starting point, not a promise of search rankings or sales.
Start with a verified product brief
Before asking AI to write, collect the product name, intended buyer, materials or file format, dimensions or page count, included items, variants, price, delivery method and known limitations. Mark anything you do not know as “needs verification.” An attractive sentence cannot replace a missing fact.
Your 10-point Shopify product listing checklist
- Name the product clearly. Put the product type and its useful distinguishing detail in the title. A shopper should understand what is being sold without opening an image.
- Answer “Who is this for?” early. Describe a specific use case. “A PDF checklist for your first product launch” gives a buyer more context than “the ultimate business solution.”
- Connect features to practical benefits. Explain how a feature helps in the stated use case. Keep benefits proportional to the evidence; do not invent health, performance or income claims.
- List exactly what is included. State quantities, materials, dimensions or file details. For digital products, explain the format, language, required tools and anything the purchase does not include.
- Plan images that answer questions. Show the product clearly, then add useful details such as scale, contents or a real example. Write alt text describing the actual image. Avoid filling it with repeated keywords.
- Check the purchase settings. Confirm the price, currency, variants, availability and whether the product requires shipping. Make sure the selected variant matches the displayed offer.
- Explain delivery and support. Tell buyers how they receive the item and where to ask for help. For a PDF, make the email delivery process clear before checkout.
- Write a distinct search title and summary. Use the main product phrase naturally. Describe this page accurately instead of repeating a list of keywords. Keep the search preview readable.
- Answer the objections that fit this product. Cover relevant questions about compatibility, skill level, contents, delivery and your published refund policy. Do not create a different refund promise inside an FAQ.
- Preview on a phone and test the path. Read the page, choose a variant, add one item to the cart and inspect checkout before payment. Check links and totals. Confirm delivery separately through an authorized test process; never assume it works because the product page saved.
A reusable AI prompt for product descriptions
Act as an ecommerce editor. Using only the verified product brief below, draft a clear Shopify product title, a short opening paragraph, five feature-and-benefit bullets, a “what is included” section and three relevant FAQs. Use plain English for [buyer and use case]. Do not invent specifications, certifications, reviews, delivery promises or results. Mark missing information as [VERIFY]. Return a separate list of facts I must check before publishing. Product brief: [paste verified facts].
Review the draft against your brief line by line. Remove unsupported claims, replace vague adjectives with useful details and read the result aloud. If a sentence could describe almost any product, make it more specific.
Before and after: a hypothetical tote listing
Verified facts for this example: a cotton tote, 38 × 42 cm, with 60 cm handles. These are invented example facts, not a product sold by NextKit Studio.
Before: “The best premium bag for everyone. Amazing quality and perfect for every occasion.”
After: “Everyday Cotton Tote — 38 × 42 cm. Carry your daily essentials in a cotton tote with 60 cm handles. Check the measurements against the items you plan to carry before ordering.”
The revised copy names the item and gives the shopper concrete information. It avoids unsupported claims about strength, sustainability or universal suitability. Your real listing should use your own verified facts.
Want a guided workflow for your first listing?
The 30-Minute AI Product Listing Playbook brings the steps together in a 24-page English PDF with 10 copy-ready AI prompts, a worked example and a launch checklist. It is currently $19.90 USD, delivered by a download link after successful payment.
Use this free checklist if you only need a final review. Choose the playbook if you want a structured workflow to follow while creating the listing. AI software and a Shopify subscription are separate, and sales results are not guaranteed.
